According to statistics, teen girls appear on Chatroulette mostly in groups. We argue this is gives this website charged with lewdness and sexploitation by exhibitionists a nicely Victorian twist.   In the good old days of Queen Victoria’s empire, young girls are only allowed in company when accompanied by a chaperone. A chaperon in the 19^th century mostly was an elderly lady of little means who earned her living by protecting her charges from the vicissitudes of a ruined reputation. In today’s speak, you’d say she kept her sister’s rep squeaky clean. Now this of course is where the analogy ends. Because girls going online together with other girls are there because they are looking for an adventure together. Seeing pictures of (body parts) of naked guys with your girlfriend is gross fun. Alone it is just gross.   So when chatrouletting, the teen girlfriend next to you is actually the fun chaperone Victorian chicks never had.

It is a mark of distinction to make it onto the The Daily Show of Jon Stewart. And on March 4^th 2010, Chatroulette made it there. While Stewart’s take on it is hilarious, it reveals more about him than it does about Chatroulette.

So, he talks about this new site that is under fire for its explicit content and has every US news station doing research on it. And he means ON it. He gives it a try in the Show and out comes something between the Governor’s press ball and XXL Males. (Wishful thinking the women watching say: if only they were that large!) Of course, most female colleagues “next” Stewart, because they can’t be bothered. Shot of: Jon Stewart flipping.

For him, Chatroulette does not equal a relaxed chat with strangers. But Stewart does not seem to be the guy looking for that. So, Chatroulette may have made it onto his show, but it is made for guys of his temperament remains uncertain.
