Who says speed makes everything go faster? I argue that Chatroulette — which is just about as fast as it gets socially — gives your life a new shock still tranquillity. Some people complain about the randomness of Chatroulette and the mass of uninteresting chat partners you have to tolerate, before you meet one interesting guy (or girl). Well, duh: “Random” is Chatroulette’s middle name. If you want to talk to friends, pick up the phone and call your kindergarten pal. And for those uninteresting masses: well have you ever bought a bag of strawberries and all of them were perfect? Ha! I bet you there was mushy, green, brown, tasteless — all next to the one perfect luscious ripe berry. But boy does time stop when that one explodes in your mouth. And THAT, my friend, is exactly what happens when after clickety-clacking through dozens of dull dudes, you hook up with the one good guy or fun girl out there: a time-stop-warp. Karen

  Thanks to Youtube you control what you get to see on chatroulette. You can click away any nude pics of the rude kind – if they actually made it past the controls of Youtube. There is something to be said for the pairing of these two platforms. It pacifies the enraged and (rightfully) worried parents of teens (or younger) logging on to chatroulette to hook up for a couple of minutes with random strangers. Since the platform went online in late 2009 the number of people hitting it went sky high. To parents, however, the evergrowing number of users brought with it an evergrowing number of abusers. Your son or daughter would be faced with close-ups of unsavoury body parts: the plain exhibitionist or slasher clips. But if you go on to Youtube and enter chatroulette in search you get to chose the clips. Besides avoiding adult content, the selection of clips that are available also represent things other people thought worthwhile or funny. So, yes, the excitement of actually chatting yourself is gone. But gone are also the many d***s and a lot of chats that you would have fastforwarded through with F9 anyway.
